What started out as a sailors last night farewell to his wife, turned into a swaying folk rock song. I set out to write a sea shanty and it still has elements of the ocean and an underlying pirate vibe. Hope you enjoy, this is a song about togetherness and the importance of staying connected with like-minded souls : D

Lyrics:
When you're cast adrift on a lonely ocean
Let the wind set your sails in motion
Away from the shore your ship may roam
But the lighthouse of love will guide you back home

Together we are giants, standing tall
Always a helping hand whenever we fall
Our sisters and brothers, we all stand strong
Side by side, as we're singing this song

Light up the fire and gather around
Keep it burning all through the night
The glow of the flames will light our way
And the beat of our hearts, won't lead us astray

On the breath of chance, our feathers are blown
But through it all we are never alone
The mighty drum beats inside your chest
Giving you the courage to conquer your quest

Through every fight, the light keeps us strong
Through the darkest of nights we'll be singing this song
The glow of the flame will light our way
And the heat of our hearts, keeps the demons at bay

Light up the fire and gather around
Keep it burning all through the night
The glow of the flames will light our way
And the beat of our hearts won't lead us astray

The wisdom of our fathers rings clear in our mind
To bring us strength in the challenges we find
We carry the torch of the blessed departed
To fuel the fires of the dreams that they started

Don't let the memory fade
Don't let the memory fade
Don't let the memory fade
Don't let it fadeā€¦

Light up the fire and gather around
Keep it burning all through the night
The glow of the flames will light our way
And the beat of our hearts
Won't lead us astray

Light up the fire and gather around
Keep it burning all through the night
The glow of the flames will light our way
And the beat of our hearts
Won't lead us astray

I don't think that I had heard this one yet. Production sounds really good, my friend. I especially like what you've done with the rhythm section. Very tasteful, low-key drum track.

Thanks for writing, recording, and sharing. What's up next?

Haha, never heard that tune before! Very freaky video and lyrics! Not sure we'd be able to pull that one off, maybe one day...

It's all a bit quiet over here at the moment actually. I've been going back to my main instrument drums recently, had a covers gig last week and got another one in a month, so all my time is learning drum parts. Haven't picked up the guitar for a while, loads of ideas sitting around but in drum world at the moment!
I'm sure I'll go back to it some point but nothing new recently.
How's things in Blitzburgh? And the new projects?

Looking forward to hearing your new ideas. I've got some new ones, mainly little paintings, and some weird music I've been recording http://www.feed-forward.net/w.4328_Celebration_of_Benci_part_1_Warning_Expe + -- and here's an example of the classical music I've been playing with: http://www.feed-forward.net/w.3798_4GLB -- keep on hitting those skins!!! Cool song. Very piratey and thoughtful lyrics! I think it could sound good at a faster speed too.

I really like the intro, but the vocals are a little harsh. They're a little... piratey.

I would soften up the tone, rather than like a ballad type song, turn it into a quieter, chiller song, similar to the style around 3:15. I think it would work very well with the music, which I love.

Not even taking any of that into consideration, the production quality is very good. I would say with some work this could be an awesome tune!

Hehe, I like this feedback, I'm glad you picked up on the pirate vibe! I originally wrote the song (with different lyrics) as a pirates farewell to his lover, before heading off to sea. So even after the lyrics changed to a more universal message of togetherness, the pirate undercurrents remained. And try as I might to convince the singer to sing it normally, he was still singing it as a pirate all the way through!
Useful suggestions, perhaps it would work better as a ballad, a bit more chilled. Glad you like the music and thanks for the kind words. Arrghh! ; )
