JZC gave feedback to Ian Marquis for “Thick as Thieves”:
wow! your music is great!! sounds like movie soundtrack.....to be honest, I wouldn't expect this kind of music from the cover. you look very serious in the picture.

Hey, thank you! I've been trying to improve my ability to make decent songs for years now. I've gotten better, but I still can't really get many people to listen!

to be honest, I think it's the cover. You look very serious in the picture--I would not have expected that kind of music. you need something more vibrate for the cover to get more people to listen and appreciate your talent

I thought I had set the album artwork to show, but I guess I didn't. I'm fixing that now.

Kode of Bliss gave feedback to Ian Marquis for “Only In Your Dreams”:
Nice song. How do you produce your guitar work? Very clean and great sounds.

Hey, thank you! I record using a Shure SM58, clean up the audio with iZotope RX, and then add whatever effects I like in FL Studio, my program of choice.

Cool song. The vocals and the song lyrics were great. I agree with Ryan that the drums seem a bit flat. Are you using a DAW for the drums?

Ian Marquis
Yes - the drums are arranged in FL Studio using samples.

Have you tried adding a little compresson to them. I use FL studio and have been working to get my drums sounding better, it can be done.

I'm using compression, EQ, reverb, and probably a little distortion to crunch things up. I've gotten some pretty thick drum sounds out of FL, but I'm not that great at creating a groove or funky sound. I tend to stick with straight-ahead beats.

These are great harmonies!

Cool song, Ian :-)

Hey, thank you - glad you enjoyed the sound! I really love the way the vocals mesh in this track. It's probably my best harmony work to date.

Is it a new track? I heard some of your other songs before, but I'd say that this is the best one of heard so far, by far. I'm a big harmony guy myself. You might liek this one: http://www.feed-forward.net/w.1012_Keep_In_Touch

It's not new as in this minute, but I was on a real kick a month or so ago, and this track was one of the results. I'll definitely check out the one you linked.

Nice vocals, drums need something to give them a better live feel. overall very clean recording.

Thanks, man. I do fight with the drums continually, because getting a live sound out of a sequenced beat can be challenging.

It's a good driving beat! Harmonies sound good as well, and the effects on the vocals are cool, but I think that the lead vocal could be a little bit stronger-- another take and or remixing them could add a lot I think.

I'm listening on a laptop, so that's probably one factor too.

Thank you! Which vocals do you think need more work: verse or chorus?
flag (May 25, 2011, 10:09 EDT)
You're welcome. The parts in the verses where there isn't any harmonies are at times a little shaky. -Shoham

Ah, gotcha. I can tighten that up a bit. Do you like the chorus vocals?

I think that the chorus vocals sound good. -Shoham
