Triumph and Sin is the first song I wrote and recorded for Faces From The Static. The majority of the work was done in a single afternoon recording session in December of 2011. Then, it remained largely unchanged until right before the album was finished, when I reworked the final chorus.

Do you remember
The triumph and the sin?
Our days ran by
Like smoke upon the wind.

And laid upon my bedspread
Are books with blackened pages.
And five miles back
The fire burns within.

Well, she's not in the doorway.
No, she's not in the chair.
And she's not at the table.

My tongue still remembers
The juniper and gin;
Our recipe
The origin of sin.

And laid upon my table
Are charcoal leaves from ages
That I spent wandering
Out and back again.

Well, she's not in the doorway.
No, she's not in the chair.
And she's not at the table.

Well, she's not in the garden.
No, she's not on the stair.
No, she's not on the left side.

Rex Yehudi (shoham) gave feedback to Ian Marquis for “Triumph And Sin”:
I don't think that I had heard this one independently, only on the album. It's a good lo-key tune. Great thing about this album is just how eclectic it is.

How is all?

It's one of the first that I recorded for the album, actually - I put it right near the end to finish up on a different note. Glad you liked it!

I've been getting a bit of play on some local stations recently (WKIT and WTOS), and I'm trying to get even more. So far, so good. Hopefully you're doing well yourself. :)
