The picture is from a guy named Paul Cezanne- the song is original- a demo, only 25c

Lyrics:
I'm Leaving the play today,
I don't want to act anymore-
The Producer is stingy,
I live on Skid Row.
The landlord is nosy,
And Lives right below

I'm leaving the play today,
I don't want to act anymore-
The Director's obtuse,
Everybody says so
The part that he gave me,
You Don't want to know...

Well, I try to ad-lib, but the man is absurd
He says I must follow the script word for word

I'm leaving the play today,
I don't want to act anymore-
The other actors complain and get by
They blame one another, but I don't know why!

No, I don't know why this play is in such dissaray,
That's why I am leaving today!

Dipper gave feedback to WalaWalaWala for “I'm Leaving the Play”:
Not sure why but reminds me a bit of Decembrists, i like the style and they lyrics...harmonizing is great-verses sound a bit (empty?) but i think its just the recording quality of the drums...keep it up its really enjoyable to listen to :)

WalaWalaWala  Thank dipper! It's a free download too. This recording was done live (at a band practice). I like it more than the 'final version' we got, but it is lo-fi. Thanks again. -Shoham  (Apr 18, 2011, 03:31 PDT)

Michael Bond gave feedback to WalaWalaWala for “I'm Leaving the Play”:
Very nice. This is a pretty original sound (to me anyway), and I was impressed by how something seemingly simple could be so good.

WalaWalaWala  Thanks-- greatly appreciate. Decide to set it for free based on your + feedback :D It's inspired by old-time vaudeville, which I like a lot.  (Apr 17, 2011, 19:55 PDT)

Frowned Upon gave feedback to WalaWalaWala for “I'm Leaving the Play”:
I like the lo-fi vibe. I think a cool sound might be to close-mic the snare and bass drums (maybe an RE20 or 421 on the bass and a 57 or a 414 on the snare?), and bring those tracks up on the second or third verse.

WalaWalaWala  Wow, thanks. This was actually a demo-- I like it better than the 'final version'. Great, in depth suggestions. Sounds like you really know drums/miking!

Thanks again,

Dudes,

Funny song. A little bit under-produced, but well recorded and well performed.

Terrific harmonies, very funny :)

Pattern Break gave feedback to WalaWalaWala for “I'm Leaving the Play”:
Hehe, you were right, I do like this! I can imagine this tune at the end of a Jim Jarmusch movie (or any movie about a down-and-out, maybe it should have been on The Big Lebowski soundtrack!) There's real character in the voice, sounds slightly inebriated in a similar style to Tom Waits, but not quite so extreme! Love the music as well, this tune has got ending credits written all over it! : D : D

WalaWalaWala  We're definitely big Tom Waits fans. Vaudeville is where it's at ;)

Thanks,

Pattern Break  Hehe, that's a bit of luck, sometimes comparing someone to Tom Waits can be a mixed blessing! The guy is a legend, I love Waltzing Matilda, Step Right Up and Downtown Train. Have you seen Down By Law? He's great in that film : D  (Feb 19, 2011, 20:12 PST)

WalaWalaWala  Never saw it. Big swordfishtrombones fan, myself. I might suggest reading some of Charles Bukowski's poetry if you like Tom Waits:

He was an LA beatnik (though he was about ten years older than most beatniks and 2,500 miles away.) He was also a big inspiration for Tom Waits, I think.

Pattern Break  Funny you mention Bukowski, slowly working my way through one of his books of poetry "Love is a Dog From Hell" at the moment. I read one of his novels too, 'Factotum' I think it was called. I like his style too and Paul Simon and Jack Kerouac in a similar vein.  (Feb 19, 2011, 20:44 PST)

WalaWalaWala  I think I may have read that one- he wrote a lot though! Never read any of his novels- they're all semi-autobiographical, aren't they?  (Feb 19, 2011, 20:54 PST)

Pattern Break  Yeah they're a bit like diaries with fictional embellishments. He tells a good story.  (Feb 19, 2011, 21:18 PST)
