s.a. zober gave feedback to Ian Marquis for “Thick as Thieves”:
I hadn't heard your stuff in a while, Ian. Great track! What's your next move? I might need your help, remixing my next album -- a solo project. I will let you check out some of the tracks once I have some of the stems in place.

Great stuff, as always, Ian. Lyrics, = great, too.

Thank you,

Ian Marquis  Hey, thank you! I'm currently trying to wrap up work on my next album. I'm hoping it'll be done by this summer. If you're curious, I keep an up-to-date set of songs at http://ianmarquismusic.com/album/faces-from-the-static-2013-wip. I'll be putting the new set on FF once it's done, of course :)

Also, I'd love to hear what you're up to!

Kode of Bliss gave feedback to Ian Marquis for “Indecent”:
Nice bell sound going on. The drums are well done nice and clean. I felt the vocals were a bit too forward in the mix, maybe it is just me. Still some good panning and intermixing of the instruments.

I enjoyed it. I've got some instant feedback from another person over here "Sounds like a telephone, I like it."

Has something of a classical feel, in my opinion. Great sound for the season, one of your most festive sounding tunes. Sounds like Christmas. TBC???

Kode of Bliss  Hmm, not sure if sounding like a telephone is exactly what I was looking for, of course I am not sure what I was looking for as I was just playing around. I don't think I am going to tweak this track any more, perhaps down the line I might. Thanks for the feedback.  (Dec 28, 2012, 12:11 PST)

s.a. zober  It's actually very cool. That was just sort of the imagery of the piece. Gabrielle liked it, too! She has the telephone imagery, and meant it in a good way/says she doesn't know music lingo, but thought the tone of the song was interesting!!! -S  (Dec 30, 2012, 09:40 PST)

s.a. zober gave feedback to Ian Marquis for “Indecent”:
Vox sound great on this one. I don't think that I had heard this one before. The waveform looks pretty rad on this one, too. How did you do that?!?

I love the lyrics as always, man I never thought that I'd be nostalgic for the 1980's! Very professional production value -- your'e going places, kid!!!

How is everything with you, my friend?

Thank,

Ian Marquis  Hey, thank you!

I did a LOT of stereo tricks with this mix: jumping pans, phasing and flanging, layers, and whatever else I could think of. This track sat around on my computer for a while, unfinished, before I finally wrapped it up back when I was finishing The Man Forgotten. It was the first song I started, but one of the last I completed.

Lately, I've been taking a little break from songwriting and production to get a fresh perspective and decompress. I'm hoping to really do a big marketing push this winter.

Take it easy!

s.a. zober gave feedback to Ian Marquis for “Daedalus Heard”:
Great patience with the production. Always a pleasure to find one of your tunes on the front page.

Simple effects on the vox, but very effective. What was your secret with the vocals?

Rich!

Ian Marquis  Hey, thank you again!

With the vocals, I had some really good luck this time layering a couple of takes with a fairly deep reverb, plus using one that was hard-tuned paired with another more raw take - it gives them a thick sound that stood out well, I think. Glad you enjoyed it!  (Aug 05, 2012, 08:27 PDT)

s.a. zober  I did. Thanks for the insights. As you know, I'm a singer myself, so I'm always looking for little techniques to get better recordings. -s  (Aug 05, 2012, 08:32 PDT)

s.a. zober gave feedback to Ian Marquis for “Poster Child”:
Strong showing as usual, Ian. How is your ground game going? Hopefully you're getting your due on the local airways!

Any time I listen to the top 40 radio and then hear your stuff, it reminds me that when you get your shot, your stuff is going to blow up on there!

By the way are you getting to play out live much, if at all?

-Shoham

Ian Marquis  Thanks, man. I've been working lately on getting some local stations to play my stuff on their indie blocks. WTOS is going to drop one of the songs next week, and a tiny station in Rockland played a song last week. It's slow going, but every bit counts. No live shows yet, but I am considering forming a band if I ever find the time.  (Jul 19, 2012, 04:55 PDT)

s.a. zober  Cool. Keep pushing with the local stations. IT's a headache, I know, but keep pushing. I promise you your suff is ready to break, but you've got to make sure to get it out there to these local stations. If possible, visit in person. The college stations, too. You've put in the work on composition and recording, the last push is often the hardest, but keep pushing!!!  (Jul 19, 2012, 05:17 PDT)

s.a. zober gave feedback to Ian Marquis for “Pretend”:
Awesome harmonies, Ian! Did you ever end up bringing in your CD to the local college radio stations? I could really see this stuff blowing up on college radio, much more interesting than the top 40 stuff out there right now. Thanks! -sho

Ian Marquis  Hey, thanks! I haven't had a chance to do as much promotion as I'd like lately, but I am gearing up for a new round of sending the CD out to as many people as possible. Recently, I've been doing a lot of promo on reddit.  (Jul 06, 2012, 09:59 PDT)

Gabrielle gave feedback to Ian Marquis for “Tomorrow”:
I was expecting the song to build to a loud, dramatic chorus like an 80s rock ballad, but I liked the softer chorus. I like the song. Lyrics are good too.
